My daughter has frequent ear infections?

So her pediatrician sent her to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. The specialist highly recommended we get tubes put in her ears. She is 2. I realize that ultimately, this decision will be between her father and I, but I wanted to her some opinions from other parents. Did any of you have this issue with your child? How did you handle it? Did you attempt to let your child grow out of it or did you get the surgery? Her father and I both had to have tubes inserted as children, but not at 2, it just makes me weary as a new parent. I was thinking about getting a second opinion but all specialists in my area are booked until August. She gets an ear infection every month or so, so I don't want to make her suffer unnecessarily.
