Cat loves my boyfriend even when he sprays it?

So, I have a 4 month old kitten which is really naughty. Jumps on the counter, eats our food just when we look away and incessantly meows unnecessarily. My boyfriend and I have researched on means to discipline our cats (we have another one as well) especially this kitten. We decided that the spray bottle was the most effective. Since I don't exactly have the heart to discipline my cats with a spray bottle, my boyfriend does it. (and sometimes gets too happy with it lol) Anyway, it really deters the kitten from doing activities we frown upon. However, after having been sprayed to the point that sometimes the kitten is more than damp, the kitten sits on my boyfriends lap or cuddles with him. (sometimes i feel she is more affectionate with him than with me =P) We don't want it to hate us, obviously, however, we just didn't expect this much affection, espceially after a spray. Anyone can explain why this happens? Does my kitten secretly like being sprayed? LOL. any comment is welcome.
