What is a good scanning resolution for Anime drawings?

Ive been drawing anime on paper then scanning them to computer to color or add effects using GIMP but i used 2400 dpi but when i do that it puts a large strain on my computer and it makes it harder to put on deviant art or add color. what would be a better resolution i wanted to keep it large so its easier to edit and put detail into, just without making it unnecessarily too large, any suggestions?
